The first real hike in the Austrian Alps and certainly not the last. Schaltenkess is a glacier in the Venediger mountain group, located within the High Tauern National Park. The glacier is surrounded by peaks over 3000 meters (Großvenediger: 3,667 m, Kleinvenediger: 3,470 m, Hohes Aderl: 3,504 m, Rainerhorn: 3,559 m). The starting point for the hike is the small mountain village of Innergschlöss. You can reach it by organized transport, on foot, or by bike. From there, it takes about two more hours to reach the glacier. The trail is one of the most beautiful I have ever hiked. In summer, you will be surrounded by waterfalls (I counted 10 at one point), fed by the melting glacier. I highly recommend it
